Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest, one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Germany, is back for its 54th year. With traditional German food and beer, festive Bavarian music, stein-holding contests, log sawing, and more, Oktoberfest is the highlight for many on their fall calendar.

• Location: Big Bear Lake Convention Center 42900 Big Bear Blvd. Big Bear Lake, CA 92315
• Dates: Weekends from September 7th to November 9th, 2024 
• Event times: Saturdays: 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sundays: 12 pm to 6 pm, and Fridays (October only) 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The festival runs every Saturday and Sunday over two months, with themed weekends and plenty of authentic German traditions for the entire family. Be sure to plan ahead as tickets for special events, including the über Burgermeister Party Packs and the “Love Shacks,” sell out quickly. 

The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest serves the very same beers found at Munich’s Oktoberfest, as well as German-style brats, knockwurst, and pretzels.

Getting to Big Bear Lake 

There are three major mountain routes into Big Bear, making it accessible from various parts of Southern California. 

By Plane 

The closest airport to Big Bear is Ontario International Airport. After landing, you can rent a car and drive to Big Bear in just over an hour. The scenic drive provides stunning views of the San Bernardino Mountains.

By Car 

From the Greater Los Angeles Area:

Take the 101 South to merge onto the 210 East. Depending on traffic, the drive takes around two hours. Once on the 210, continue to Highway 330, which turns into Highway 18, leading you directly to Big Bear Lake. 

Highway 330/Highway 18: 

This is the most popular route, offering the fastest way to Big Bear from Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

From Orange County Area: 

Take Interstate 5 North to the 91 East, then merge onto the 215 North before taking the 210 East. Follow this until you reach Highway 330, leading to Highway 18. 

From San Diego County: 

Drive North on the I-15 to the 215 North. Exit onto Highway 210 East and follow directions to Highway 330/Highway 18 for your ascent to Big Bear. 

From Barstow: 

Take Highway 247 South through Lucerne Valley and connect to Highway 18. This scenic route brings you into Big Bear from the north side. 

Oktoberfest Transportation: How to Get Around 

To ensure you have a fun and safe Oktoberfest experience, the event offers two free transportation options:

Free Shuttle Service

The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest provides a free shuttle service to and from the Convention Center, helping alleviate parking congestion. The complimentary “Take Home” shuttle starts at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and provides door-to-door service anywhere in the Big Bear Valley. It runs until 11:00 p.m., so you can enjoy your evening without worrying about getting home safely.

Weekend Trolley 

The Big Bear Weekend Trolley runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Convention Center, offering another free, safe option for getting around after a night of celebration.

Don’t Drink and Drive 

It’s no surprise that Oktoberfest is centered around drinking – beer, specifically. However, while enjoying this famous festival, it’s crucial to prioritize safety. With alcohol flowing freely, it can be easy to overindulge, but driving under the influence is not only dangerous, it’s illegal.
